Grab
Grab is like Southeast Asia’s version of Uber, and we used it almost every day. For short distances (less than 10 minutes), the usual fare was around 9,000 to 13,000 IDR for a scooter, while cars started at 50,000 IDR for similar trips. Grab is ideal for quick trips around town, especially if you’re okay with hopping on the back of a scooter—it’s the way locals do it!
Gojek
Gojek is another popular option in Bali, but we hit some bumps trying to connect our Wise card for payment. The app does have a perk: a cash payment discount, which can save you a bit on each ride. So if you’re okay with carrying cash, Gojek might be a good option.
Tip: Both apps offer options for scooters and cars, but scooters are usually cheaper and faster.
2. Car vs. Scooter: Which is Better?
Deciding between a car and a scooter depends on where you’re going and how comfortable you are on two wheels.
- Scooters are generally the best way to get around for shorter distances. Bali’s narrow streets can be tricky for cars, especially in crowded areas, so scooters are perfect for avoiding traffic and navigating the smaller side streets.
